-
- Mine will warm up SLIGHTLY if I use it very heavily (an hourlong QSO).
- On high power, it will of course get quite hot.
- Be sure to install the supplied metal belt clip -- it's a heat sink!
-
- You said a friend has an HT that doesn't heat on low power -- is his "low"
- the same wattage as your "low"?
-
- Regarding your power supply: I have the service manual here -- according
- to the factory specs, the HTX-202 is quite forgiving when it come to input
- voltage.

- huh??? CW? QRZ the QRZ? goin' QRT? gee... folks who actually speak
- the language are the ones who determine what proper usage. I've
- been a ham since 1967 and an swl for several years before that.
- I think that the very first issue of QST I ever saw (circa 1964
- or so) had some poor sod babbling about CW prosigns being incorrect
- usage on 'phone.
-
- Hey, common guys, give it a rest, huh? If an abbreviated version
- of a word or sentence makes CW more efficient, it will likely make
- 'phone more efficient also - if it translates well. Heck, as near
- as I can tell, the practice of using CW prosigns on 'phone actually
- predates the EXISTANCE of CB. We hams did it ourselves and there's
- nothing wrong with it. Those who disagree are obviously victims
- of the wizzing rettysnitch and may require repeated applications
- of the wouff hong to effect a cure!

- Hi all,
- We just had a meeting with one of the disaster coordinators for our local PD.
- They were very interested in watching us "do our thing" so we suggested a trip
- to FD. Well, it turns out that a family trip to Washington State is going to
- make that impossible. But they would be interested in visiting a FD site "up
- north" So if there are any folks in the Raymond, Aberdeen, Westport or
- associated areas please send me a bit of e-mail so I can coordinate a visit.

- To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
-
- Once again I petition thee, the all-knowing Internet, and appeal to thy
- ultimate wisdom...
-
- I work in Reston Virginia, which lies about 10 miles away from an AM radio
- station I listen to in Maryland. This would be the one and only WPGC...
- business (read infomercial :-) radio 1580. I can barely pick up WPGC
- on my car radio in Reston. Inside the office building I work it's
- impossible to pick up WPGC, at least on the AM/FM radio I have.
-
- Question: Can anyone recommend a "walkman" type radio that will pick
- up these weak AM stations even in office buildings from far away?
-
- Yes, I know about the specially modified GE superradio that picks up
- FM subcarriers, however this radio is a big hefty fella and has little
- use outside the office.
-
- So the bottom line is... any walkmen that are phenominally sensitive?

- with your stance you retort with ``your remarks are not resolving this

-
- Reread what you said above: ``...50,000 hams within simplex range...''.
- Do you realize how ridiculous you sound whining for access on repeaters
- that don't want you just so you can yake at a few hundred more folks?
-
- This entire thread is ridiculous - when you use a repeater you're using
- twice the spectrum that's actually needed to carry out your communication;
- you cry about spectrum management yet tie up *two* frequencies every time
- you key your xmtr, when in actuality you could very well use a single
- frequency to talk to that same person. You're relying on other peoples'
- radios (repeaters) to radiate more-than-needed RF thus limiting other
- people's use of that same frequency.
-
- Is that person too far away to communicate via simplex? Then try a band
- that suits the range: groundwave on 160M or 80M comes to mind.
