  136. Mine will warm up SLIGHTLY if I use it very heavily (an hourlong QSO).
  137. On high power, it will of course get quite hot.
  138. Be sure to install the supplied metal belt clip -- it's a heat sink!

  140. You said a friend has an HT that doesn't heat on low power -- is his "low"
  141. the same wattage as your "low"?
  142.  
  143. Regarding your power supply: I have the service manual here -- according 
  144. to the factory specs, the HTX-202 is quite forgiving when it come to input
  145. voltage.

  161. huh??? CW? QRZ the QRZ? goin' QRT? gee... folks who actually speak
  162. the language are the ones who determine what proper usage. I've
  163. been a ham since 1967 and an swl for several years before that.
  164. I think that the very first issue of QST I ever saw (circa 1964
  165. or so) had some poor sod babbling about CW prosigns being incorrect
  166. usage on 'phone.
  167.  
  168. Hey, common guys, give it a rest, huh? If an abbreviated version
  169. of a word or sentence makes CW more efficient, it will likely make
  170. 'phone more efficient also - if it translates well. Heck, as near
  171. as I can tell, the practice of using CW prosigns on 'phone actually
  172. predates the EXISTANCE of CB. We hams did it ourselves and there's
  173. nothing wrong with it. Those who disagree are obviously victims
  174. of the wizzing rettysnitch and may require repeated applications
  175. of the wouff hong to effect a cure!

  187. We just had a meeting with one of the disaster coordinators for our local PD.  
  188. They were very interested in watching us "do our thing" so we suggested a trip 
  189. to FD.  Well, it turns out that a family trip to Washington State is going to 
  190. make that impossible.  But they would be interested in visiting a FD site "up 
  191. north"  So if there are any folks in the Raymond, Aberdeen, Westport or 
  192. associated areas please send me a bit of e-mail so I can coordinate a visit.

  345. Once again I petition thee, the all-knowing Internet, and appeal to thy
  346. ultimate wisdom...

  348. I work in Reston Virginia, which lies about 10 miles away from an AM radio
  349. station I listen to in Maryland.  This would be the one and only WPGC...
  350. business (read infomercial :-) radio 1580.  I can barely pick up WPGC
  351. on my car radio in Reston.  Inside the office building I work it's
  352. impossible to pick up WPGC, at least on the AM/FM radio I have.
  353.  
  354. Question:  Can anyone recommend a "walkman" type radio that will pick
  355. up these weak AM stations even in office buildings from far away?
  356.  
  357. Yes, I know about the specially modified GE superradio that picks up
  358. FM subcarriers, however this radio is a big hefty fella and has little
  359. use outside the office.

  361. So the bottom line is... any walkmen that are phenominally sensitive?

  475. As you have read in the June edition of the QST on page 58, there
  476. will is a place for young hams to meet. Unfortunately, due to my
  477. error, some of the details were vague. The time was moved after the
  478. article was sent to print to Sundays at 2000 CST (8 p.m. Chicago,
  479. same as Mondays at 0100 UTC) to accommodate the young people in the
  480. Eastern Time zone who has to get some sleep. Additionaly, the node
  481. where I telnet into has been moved to another location, and it took
  482. me a while to find an alternate place to telnet from, so I appologize
  483. for not cheking in to my own forum. Now the questions has been
  484. pouring in to me, asking can they telnet to the forum on packet.
  485. Since all situations are different I would like all of you who has a
  486. question in regards to telneting to the forum, or about the forum
  487. itself to contact me on an individual bases via E-mail, Packet or my
  488. callbook address. And also, If you have already sent me a message and

  497. young packet operators to join the International Youth Forum on
  498. Saturday nights at 0200 UTC contained access instructions that had
  499. some incorrect information. Licensed hams who operate TCP/IP packet
  500. radio with a local Internet  "gateway" (or who otherwise have access
  501. to the Internet) should Telnet to a local AmprNet Converse Server
  502. (port 3600; eg, telnet 44.xx.xx.xx 3600), and after logging in, go to
  503. Channel 14. The time of the forum has been also changed to Sunday at

  582. has nothing to do with the thread. It has become glaringly obvious that
  583. you desire to be moderator of this topic, and that when someone disagrees
  584. with your stance you retort with ``your remarks are not resolving this

  588. Do you realize how ridiculous you sound whining for access on repeaters
  589. that don't want you just so you can yake at a few hundred more folks?

  591. This entire thread is ridiculous - when you use a repeater you're using
  592. twice the spectrum that's actually needed to carry out your communication;
  593. you cry about spectrum management yet tie up *two* frequencies every time
  594. you key your xmtr, when in actuality you could very well use a single
  595. frequency to talk to that same person. You're relying on other peoples'
  596. radios (repeaters) to radiate more-than-needed RF thus limiting other
  597. people's use of that same frequency.

  599. Is that person too far away to communicate via simplex? Then try a band
  600. that suits the range: groundwave on 160M or 80M comes to mind.
